Before a shell ever touches the lake, it carries a name — and a name carries a story: the ones who gave them, the ones who inspired them, and the ones we've lost along the way. From here forward, these boats carry more than rowers — they carry the names and stories behind them, every time they're on the water. We're so grateful to our community for making this possible.
Panta Rhei — Jason and Emily Knight
Greek for "everything flows" — reflects Jason and Emily Knight's generous gift to MI Rowing. Their gift helped build this fleet from the ground up.
In Honor of Jake Jacobson
Named for the late Jake Jacobson, a Mercer Island City Council member who saw what this club could be long before it was anything real. He guided us through our earliest, hardest steps — we would not be here without him. His advocacy stays with us on the water, not just in our history.
In Honor of Kristina Robbs
Given to MIRC by her husband, Charlie Robbs, in her memory, this open water single was Kristina Robbs' own. It carries her spirit onto Lake Washington every time it leaves the shore.
MIHS "Spirit of '76"
Made possible by the Mercer Island High School Class of 1976 Bicentennial Fund — a scholarship fund that supported students for decades before its final gift became this boat. As one program sets its sun, ours rises: their last scholarship dollars became our first purchased shell, carrying their legacy into MI Rowing's future.
Spirit of Mercer Island
Won fair and square — Padraic McGovern, Director of the George Pocock Rowing Foundation, took home naming rights in a raffle. But Padraic's mark on MIRC goes well beyond a lucky draw: he's been instrumental in our success from the start. The name belongs to the whole community he helped make this program possible for.
